Domaine des Bernardins is a 25 hectare estate in Beaumes-de-Venise that was originally farmed by the Bernadin monks. In the early 19th century it came into the hands of hands of the Castaud family. It has been family-owned for five generations.
in the 1940s, Louis Castaud was one of the first vignerons to show concern about how the village’s traditional production had almost disappeared, to counter this he worked hard to ensure the village achieved appellation status for Muscat de Beaumes de Venise in 1945.
Domaine des Bernardins thrives by combining know-how and traditional values. Today Louis’ daughter Renée Castaud is still active in day-to-day life at the estate. His granddaughter Elisabeth, her husband Andrew Hall and their son Romain now run the estate and make the wine.
The estate is a leading producer of Muscat Beaumes de Venise, thus 17 hectares of the estate’s vineyards are planted with Muscat and the remaining 8 hectares are used to grow fruit for their red wines.
