Mission Estate, Riesling 2013, New Zealand, wine review

Every Sunday Tom Cannavan of wine-pages.com chooses a new wine of the week. For 25th January 2015 the Mission Estate, Riesling 2013 from Hawkes Bay in New Zealand is his Wine of the Week. There’s a lot more than Sauvignon Blanc to New Zealand wine, and indeed a lot of Riesling is produced. Much of it comes from the South Island in regions like Marlborough and Central Otago, but this is from home of big red wines, Hawkes Bat in the North Island. It is an off-dry Riesling, much in the style of a German halbrtocken perhaps, but beautifully refined with a hugely aromatic nose, wonderfully fresh and vibrant palate, and a long crisp finish filled with waxy lemon fruit and acidity. It costs £10.99 in the UK from the list of stockists featured on the video.
