So, Beaujolais is divided in ten “Crus”. Des Crus…impossible to say… not “cruuh”, “Cru” with un u…Les dix Crus de Beaujolais…The Tens Crus of Beaujolais.

(BROUILLY) First of all, Brouilly. Brouilly. It’s like “broohy”? “Brewey?” You can say Brouilly, or Brooh-eee, which is exaggerated. We say in France “J’ai bu du Brouilly”.

(CHIROUBLES) The second one is Chiroubles.  You can also say “She-roo-bls” or “She-roux-bluh” We say “I had a great shee-roux-bluh” at lunch.

(CHENAS) You have chay-nas, as you say, or you may say “chain-ahs” It is “shay-nah”. (In French) “J’ai bu un Chénas apres mon Chiroubles et avant de boire un Côte de Brouilly!”.

(COTES DE BROUILLY) Ohh? Coat de Broohey? Non! Côtes de Brouilly. Like you say “Côtes d’Or” you say “Côtes d’ Azur”, but we say “coats de broohey”. Then after you drink your Brouilly, Chénas, Chiroubles, you have your Côtes de Brouilly but you can also drink a Juliénas.

(JULIENAS) Joo-lee-en-ahs? It’s not Julius, it’s not Julien, it’s Zhoo-lee-en-ahs. You can also say “Joo-lee-en-ahs” but we prefer to hear “zhoo lee en ah”.

(MORGON) Then, the great thing that we are in Beaujolais but the best of the Beaujolais wines is the Morgon when it turns towards the Bourgogne! More-gun?! No, “Mohr-gohn when it became a Bourgogne!” Ah, that’z complicated… I know! You have to say “I drink my Morgon I want my glass of Mohr-gohn”. And we say in France “J’ai bu un Morgon de la balle!!!” Vivre le Morgon!

(MOULINS A VENT) Ah yes, this one is nice. It’s “Mohleen a ventz??? or Moo-lahn ah ven. “Vent” like the wind. Moo-lahn like the…Moulin. How do you say Moulin? Huh, so, the weendmeell? Ok, you have the windmill and we have the moulin à vent. This is a Cru of Beaujolais also. The day after you have your Chénas, and your Juliénas and your Brouilly your Côtes de Brouilly and your Morgon, you can start with your Moulin à Vent. It’s great thing, your Moulin à Vent.

(RÉGNIÉ) Then you have.. Reg-nn-yay. Rehnyay? We say “Régnié! Régnié!” We go rrrrhh (rolls r as only a Frenchman can). Régnié! I want my glass of Régnié zis morning, please! Régnié You can say Reg-nee, but nobody would understand you. You have to say “I want a Régnié, please”

(SAINT AMOUR) The best for the last. The “Saint Amour” This is very… “sahhnt-ahmoorh” like “Saint Valentin”, Valentines Day. You say “My ahhmoorrh? Mon amour, veux-tu un verre de de Saint Amour?”

So in Beaujolais you have ten different Crus. BROUILLY, CHIROUBLES, CHENAS, COTES DE BROUILLY, JULIENAS, MORGON, MOULINS A VENT, FLEURIE…AHH I forgot Fleurie, I’m sorry! It’s like “Flurry” “Flurrie” RÉGNIÉ and SAINT AMOUR.

Have a good day, et Buvez du Beaujolais!
