How do you select an oak barrel for a wine?

Winemaker Alex Davis explains how he selects his oak barrels for the wines that he makes in the Russian River Valley of California. Alex uses some new oak barrel for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but none for his Viognier. Ask a Winemaker talked with Alex on location in the Russian River Valley at Porter creek Winery in 2010.
