It’s grape picking season! With over 3,000 different types of “wine, France is one of the leading wine nations. As you can imagine the harvest is a big deal. This year, after a scorching summer, “les vendanges” started in mid-August. That’s a lot earlier than usual and follows a growing trend of earlier and earlier harvests. Scientists say that climate change is affecting not only the date of the harvest but the quality of the grapes themselves and the amount of wine produced. In this French Connections we explore the grape harvest, an integral part of France’s DNA.
