We are fortunate to be in a position to take the Santa Rita Hills AVA (if not the whole Central Coast of California) for granted these days. However it was the hard work and sacrifice that folks like Richard Sanford invested long ago which established it as a viable region and broadened the reputation of California in world class grape-growing and winemaking.
